  • Robert M. Jaffe, Executive Chairman

    Robert M. Jaffe has served as chairman of the board of directors of A-Life since September 2002. 

    Jaffe co-founded Sorrento Associates, Inc., in 1985.  Previously, he was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, Salomon Brothers, Inc. and Goldman, Sachs & Co.  In these roles, Jaffe had responsibilities for mergers and acquisitions and public offerings of high technology companies.  He was also a member of the technical staff at Hughes Aircraft Company and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. 

    Jaffe received a Master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar, the School's highest academic honor.  He graduated with a Master of Science degree as a Hughes Fellow from The California Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from The University of California at Berkeley.

  • James T. Callier, Jr., Director

    James T. Callier, Jr. has been a director of A-Life since December 1997.  He is the founder, president and chief executive officer of Callier Interests, an investment company that specializes in leveraged buy-out acquisitions and turnaround management.  Since 1982, he has been involved as a principal in twelve acquisitions with aggregate sales of $4 billion.  Callier was also one of three founding members of Wingate Partners, which acquired Redman Industries, Century Products, Loomis Armored (now Loomis Fargo), Redman Building Products, and United Stationers.  As a private investor, he completed buy-outs of multiple companies with annual revenues totaling $400 million. 

    Callier is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School.

  • Tom Bang, Director

    Tom Bang, president and CEO of A-Life Medical, Inc. overseeing all A-Life Hospital’s activities, is a creative leader energized by emerging product and market opportunities.  Bang truly understands the value of strategy, execution and team collaboration.

    Throughout his 30-year career, Bang held various executive level positions in leading healthcare companies, including those with MediTROL Automation Systems (Owen Healthcare); Pyxis Corporation (Cardinal Health);  Baxter International and American Hospital Supply Corporation.

    More specifically, prior to joining the Pyxis Corporation, Bang led the successful turnaround of MediTROL Automation Services, acquired by Cardinal Health in 1997 as part of a larger acquisition.  At Pyxis, he helped grow revenues worldwide from $200 to $680 million over a 7-year period while serving in several key executive roles.  During his tenure there, he led the development and commercialization of several new technologies.  Under his leadership, Pyxis generated new product revenues in excess of $270 million in part due to technology development and advancements along with acquisition investments of approximately $35 million. 

    Bang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University.
